Specializing in traditional Vietnamese flavors, this cozy and unpretentious eatery at 2066 18 Ave NE serves up a diverse menu that beautifully captures the heart of Vietnamese cuisine.
Dong Khanh is best known for its memorable signature dishes that invite you on a rich sensory journey. The Dong Khanh Special Rice Noodle stands out with its perfectly tender noodles immersed in a fragrant broth, beautifully balanced with fresh herbs and subtle spices. Equally compelling are their Spring Rolls—crispy on the outside yet bursting with fresh, vibrant fillings—and the Shredded Pork Roll, which combines savory richness with delicate textures.
The menu is a treasure trove of authentic flavors, from the aromatic and soothing Satay Beef Pho and the indulgent Barbecue Pigeons to comforting bowls like the No 54 Pork and Seafood Noodle Soup and the distinctively satisfying House Special Noodle Soup. For those craving a deeper dive into Vietnamese staples, steamed rice options laden with grilled pork chops, deep-fried quail, or grilled shrimps provide fulfilling and hearty meals.
One of the restaurant's highlights is the delicate interplay of textures and flavors in dishes like the Beef Satay Soup with Rice, where satay’s rich, nutty notes come alive against tender beef and fluffy rice. The Deep Fried Battered Shrimp adds a crisp, golden contrast, though some diners have found it a tad greasy — a small quibble in an otherwise flavorful lineup. Dong Khanh also offers homely favorites like Shrimp Fried Rice and stir-fried lemongrass chicken, enhancing the menu’s diversity and appeal.
Dinings at Dong Khanh feels like stepping into an inviting corner of Vietnam. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, perfect for intimate meals or quiet dinners. Customers praise the reasonable prices paired with generous portions, making it easy to indulge without hesitation. Reviewers consistently applaud the freshness of the pho—light yet deeply flavorful— and the authenticity of harder-to-find items such as the Vietnamese Sour Pork Rolls, a must-try for adventurous palates. While some note minor personal preferences around saltiness or intensity, the overall impression is of a kitchen dedicated to genuine, heartwarming Vietnamese cuisine.

The prices have not increased much since. The portions of the dishes are very filling. The taste of foods are so good and Pho soup are so fresh and light. The only dish which I don't like much is the deep fried shrimp paste and fish. It's a bit too greasy and oily. Otherwise from appetizers to main dishes are all good.
I ordered two popular dishes recommended online. The flat rice noodles portion was a bit small, and the pork liver had a bit of a gamey taste, but overall the flavor was quite good. The fried egg cake was a bit salty for my personal taste. The prices were very reasonable.
It's very rare to find the #7. Vietnamese Sour Pork Rolls in any Vietnamese restaurant, it's a must try if you want a tasty authentic Vietnamese appetizer. If you're into organ meat textures and flavors, this is the dish #10 Dong Khanh House Special noodle soup, very good and super authentic...
Had the dry egg noodles with soup on side. It was pretty good and the price is very good!! 10-12.00 a bowl of noodle soup. It is mostly small size and you can add more noodles for extra 2.00. Definitely worth your time to check this place out. Went back and here are more pictures. The soups are cheap but the rolls are pricier. Ranging @ 8.00 mark. The high score is based mainly taste of food
I recently dined at Dong Khanh Vietnamese and ordered #52, the beef sauté soup with rice. The flavor was absolutely amazing – rich, savory, and perfectly balanced. The portions are generous, especially considering the affordable price point. I visited close to closing time, and I loved how quiet and peaceful the atmosphere was, with plenty of seating available. It’s a great spot to enjoy a meal in a calm environment. The owner is genuinely friendly and approachable, which added a personal touch to the experience. I also appreciated the complimentary green tea – a thoughtful and welcoming gesture. I’ll definitely be visiting again. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for great Vietnamese food!
